Fundraising Tips
Firstly - congratulations for taking on the challenge of Dry July and raising funds for adults living with cancer. If you haven't done much fundraising before we know it can be a bit daunting, so we've put together some Dry July tips and tools to help you. For those of you who are an old pro there may still be some tools in here that could make it quicker and easier for you!
Tell everyone! Don't be shy in telling people you are doing Dry July and that you are looking for donations. This isn't being pushy; it's raising money for a good cause and helping to motivate you to stay dry. It's hard to ignore a sincere appeal from a friend or family member to donate a charity.
Don't be afraid to follow up on donations a week or two after you sent your emails. Everyone gets busy and sometimes forgetful! Remember the donations are for a good cause.
Family and friends
Login in to your Dry July account to send out the pre-written email to your friends and family. This email can be found in the 'Manage my Account' section of your profile, under 'My Donations'. This is a great, simple way to prompt people to sponsor you.
Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
Update your Facebook status. Remind all your buddies or contacts you've stopped drinking for a whole month to support a good cause and you need their help! If Twitter is more your thing, tweet your Dry July appeals. Or if you like to snap happy, take a photo and upload it onto Instragram. Hashtag dryjuly, and @ us - #dryjuly @dryjuly - on all your social media sites, we like to see what you're all up to! Don't forget to include a link to your profile page so people know to click through to make a donation.
Work
Put a donation jar on your desk at work. Any spare change your colleagues or customers can donate could really end up making a big difference to the lives of adult cancer patients. Under the 'Tools' tab on the website, there is a 'Jar on the bar' glass insert, print this off to
encourage people to donate.
Download the posters from the 'Tools' page and out them up in the office - on the door to your office, above your desk - anywhere will do!
Does your company do corporate matching? Some companies will match dollar for dollar every dollar you raise. Talk to your HR team and find out.
Email your colleagues and suppliers - remember it's for a good cause! You may be surprised at who supports your fundraising. You can use the pre-written email in your 'my account' section.
Golden Ticket
Fallen of the wagon or need a night off for a big event? Don't forget a Golden Ticket. A Golden Ticket entitles you to a night off from Dry July. You can purchase one for yourself or campaign for your mates or collaegues to buy you one. A Golden Ticket cost a minimum of $25.
Designated Dryver
Usually we're not a fan of being the Designated Dryver, but during Dry July it's a great fundraising opportunity. Designated Dryver allows DJs to choose a night in July when they're prepared to drive their friends around. Seats in your car are booked through your page on the Dry July website at the cost of a donation. Nobody gets a free ride!
... donations remain open throughout August so there's still plenty of time to complete a full dry month.
