Roy has worked extensively in theatre, film and television for over 30 years throughout Australia and New Zealand.
Roy's film credits include A Heartbeat Away, Swerve, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Trader, Charlie and Boots, Unfinished Sky, $9.99, Strange Bedfellows, The Bet, Razzle Dazzle, Aquamarine, Thunderstruck, Rabbit Proof Fence, Black and White, The Dish and Siam Sunset.
Roy's Television credit include Cops: LAC, The Suspects, Rake, Underbelly ll, Packed to the Rafters, Chandon Pictures, Always Greener, Don't Blame Me, Blue Heelers, Bad Cop Bad Cop, Over the Hill, All Saints, Wildside, Secret Life of Us, Water Rats and Murder Call.
Roy's most recent theatre appearance was in Belvoir Street's production of Ruben Guthrie. Other theatre credits include Run Rabbit Run and Cloudstreet (Belvoir Street), Art, Foreskin's Lament (Auckland Theatre Company); Scam (Christine Dunstan Productions) and Chilling and Killing My Annabel Lee (Griffin Theatre Company).
Roy is the recipient of the AFI Award for Best Lead Actor in a Television Drama for Underbelly ll and was also nominated for a Silver Logie Award for Most Outstanding Actor for Underbelly ll. He has received nominations for two Film Critics Circle of Australia Awards for Best Supporting Actor for his work on The Dish and Siam Sunset, an AFI Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for Siam Sunset, a New Zealand Film Award for Best Supporting Actor in Old Scores, and a NZ TV Feltex Award for Best Actor for Inside Straight.
Roy has become a consistent and outspoken campaigner on behalf of the film industry and is a spokesman for the Australian Federation Against Copyright Theft (AFACT). In December 2010 Roy was made recipient of the ACE Award at the CineAsia Conference in Hong Kong for his crusade against piracy.
Roy is a proud and active member of the actors' union MEAA/Equity; Delegate of National Performers' Committee of MEAA, Treasurer of the Actors' Benevolent Fund of NSW Inc, and an Ambassador for the Australian Federation Against Copyright Theft, The Prince of Wales Hospital Foundation, Australian Jockey Club at Randwick Racecourse and The Sydney Swans.
